Planning a Baby Shower
Congratulations, someone you love is expecting! Now the task of baby shower planning might seem a little daunting, but with a little knowledge of the in’s and out’s of how it works, what is expected and how to go about planning it, it’ll be a breeze.
Who is the baby shower for?
Traditionally baby showers are for the new mom. However, co-ed baby showers are a great way to make the dad-to-be part of the journey to parenthood.
Who plans the shower?
Close friends or relatives usually plan the baby shower. Of course, it is not uncommon for moms-to-be to take the reins and plan their own shower. Planning can even be a fun and collective collaboration between all parties!
Timing is everything!
Baby showers are usually a surprise, but this is not always the best idea. Some moms-to-be prefer to schedule their showers. Asking subtle and indirect questions about the mother-to-be’s preferences should direct the planning and ensure the experience is great for both the guests and the guest of honour!
Some future moms prefer to have their shower early in their pregnancy, when they’re feeling more energetic to participate in the fun and games. This also helps them plan ahead and consolidate what they still need for baby after gifts have been given. Other future moms may want a shower towards the middle of their pregnancy, which suggests they are looking forward to a relaxed get-together without too much energy required!
Believe in the theme!
A theme is the best way to organise your shower effortlessly. Once you select a theme, deciding on your invitations, venue, decor, food, gifts and games becomes easy! Click here for some ideas for baby shower themes.
How to save on food and drinks
Great food will take your baby shower from meh to wow! Finger foods, such as savoury and cake platters, are much easier on the budget than providing full-course meals. Asking guests to bring a few snacks or drinks that coordinate with the theme of the shower in a potluck style is a great way to get guests involved in the festivity.
Remember to be mindful of the tee-totalling mom-to-be by serving non-alcoholic cocktails or beverages.
Baby shower gift ideas
Gift repeating at a shower is avoidable. One way to do this is to get the future mom to create a gift registry at a store of her choice. You could also insert ‘gift options’ on the invite and assign different gifts to each guest such as, ‘Amy- Gift option: 1x PURITY® & Elizabeth Anne’s Laundry Wash, 1x PURITY® & Elizabeth Anne’s Soothing & Calming Soap and 1x PURITY® & Elizabeth Anne’s Baby Bubble Wash.’
Alternatively, each guest could contribute an amount of money which the planner presents as a cash or gift voucher to the future mom-to-be.
As a token of appreciation, gift your guests with confectionaries or novelty items matching the theme of the day as a way of saying thank you, and as memorabilia of the great party you threw.
Happy baby shower planning!
